Show Reel
On my website I've chosen not to do a show reel, because I want to market myself not as a film maker or an editor but more as a media journalist with an interest in Feminism, as such I've included the essay I wrote to accompany my Major Project, a film on street harassment.
I think if I have a look people whose careers I think are similar to what I'd like to do I would focus on someone like Laura Bates. She is a writer and she also works for different non for profits and has created her own website about street harassment and is in the process of making a documentary about street harassment. I think this kind of multi media approach is one I am keen on looking into as a future job prospects. I don't want to confine myself to film making as what I want to do, I want to have the skills to work in different mediums, and that is why I am not making a show reel.

CV
http://melissawhitehouse.files.wordpress.com/2013/05/cv-2013.pdf
This is my CV, as is accessible through my website, I made it available so that if clients viewing my website want to download my CV they can. I have bolded my email and telephone number, because it is essential that it is clear to the person reading the CV how to contact me, I have included both my home address and my university address so if I applying for jobs in London or in Cambridge it is clear that I have residences in both areas. I have my personal statement about skills that I believe I possess, I wrote this from analysing the different jobs I have had. Below this I have included all of my currently held examination grades. Below this is a summary of all of the jobs I have held, and the dates I held them for. I have chosen to not include specific references, because I think that it depends on which job I am applying for, which reference I would suggest they contacted, I also did this so that if they did want to contact my references, I could give my past employers a heads up that they were going to be contacted so they gave them the pertinent information. I have also included the fact that I am still studying.
I wrote this CV when I was in year 11 and it has been updated many times and reformatted, I think in my experience it is a good CV because every job I have applied for I have gotten an interview for, based on this CV.

This job website has a CV template and the current updated version of my CV is based on this template.
I am having a look on linkedIn at people who work for the BBC and other similar companies to see what skills they have and what I could do to make me more employable to these companies
This is a video CV
<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9EzNll1U2N8>
I have decided that a video CV is not the type of self promotion that would be effective for me at the moment, I think that as someone who is just starting out a video CV would reduce my overall effectiveness rather than enhance it.

Finding a job
Looking for jobs in the media industry can be hard, because lots of jobs are internally advertised and you need experience to get the job in the first place. The big list is a list composed of newly advertised jobs in the media, the list is up to date and a good place to start looking if you are looking for a job in the media.
The BBC website for job applications can be found at <https://careers.bbc.co.uk/fe/tpl_bbc01.asp?newms=se>
It is a helpful website for people like myself who don't want to work freelance, because it has jobs and trainee positions.
This is the ITV website, it also lists all of the jobs available and is also good, they also have an apprenticeships page. <http://www.itvjobs.com>
This is the similar Channel 4 website <http://jobs.channel4.com/>
The Channel 5 website
<http://about.channel5.com/careers>
In terms of careers and what sort of jobs I will apply for when I have finished my degree I think my skill set and personality will be best suited to a stable long term job, I would hope looking in places like the 4 main UK based channels is a good place to look because I will ideally find a job in England, hopefully Southern based, I think that it would be a good idea to try and get work experience with these places. I also think that because of the continuous nature of television that I would seek to work in this part of the media industry because the movie industry is more tenuous and mobile, whereas I want a job where location is more static. I am however aware that things don't always work out this way so I am open to trying different things, but I think it is best to aim where I intend to be and see what other opportunities present themselves.

Social Media
http://www.linkedin.com/profile/view?id=247687427&trk=tab_pro
This is my linkedin profile, I am currently editing it, I have added all of my previous jobs and a summary of what they included, I am waiting for an opportunity to take a professional photo for my profile, which I will use across all my media platforms.
This is currently what my professional twitter looks like, I will update the image when I have an appropriate one, I am following places that offer media jobs, such as media nation UK and ITV jobs and BBC internships, I think this is a good place to start my networking.
I have created a 'professional signature' for my email, so that when I send emails, at the end there is a signature that contains my website, so when I am replying to professional emails they are aware of my website

Website
http://melissawhitehouse.wordpress.com/
Is the website address of my professional website, it is a work in progress and I am going to try and make it clean, easy to navigate, and I want to include a downloadeable copy of my CV, some of my recent work, and a mission statement, plus a contact table, so people viewing my website can get in touch.
Some website designs I like are:
This is the website <http://www.27bslash6.com/> whilst the material is not a professional website, the design is what I am aiming for with my final piece, I like the clean concise nature of the design and I like the colour themes and easy navigation of the website
This is a website for a musician who designed her own website and does most of her own self promotion, the design is always clean and is currently themed to promote her new album, so the colour scheme has changed to mirror that of the album artwork. I think that this is a smart and I like the plain colour scheme focussing on two main colours.
This is the design I have chosen for my website, because of my lack of graphic design knowledge I wanted to keep the design limited to one simple idea which I will use across all of my promotional platforms, which is the wood grain, and I kept the actual website as simple as possible. I have included a short bio, a downloadable PDF of my CV, so that potential clients can simply access it, I have also included a contact page with a link to my vimeo profile, my twitter handle and my email, so that if people want to contact me further they can. On the my work page, my most recent video is featured, so that viewers of the website can see what I'm about professional work wise.
Website designs that are not good:
This website is not professional looking because the design is simple, and looks out dated, the choice of colours are reminiscent of websites designed 10 years ago. It lacks any navigatable pages and would be unacceptable as a promotional website because of the design and the lack of information

Business Cards
I just designed and ordered business cards from moo.com, I decided to put on the business cards, my telephone number, twitter and website, on the cards the font used was Helvetica Light, so that is the font I am going to use in the rest of my project. The back of the business cards is the image I plan on using as a familiar image across all of my professional websites and other platforms. It is a stock image of woodgrain that I have photoshopped
Here are some examples of business cards that inspired me:
I like the first one because of the simple colour scheme. They have chosen one colour, and used it across the cards. There is only one colour used and it is a nice simple design. I liked the plainness of this second one, and the simple designs, I wanted to have a few colours as possible and have the design as simple as possible. I think it is impossible to have as simple a business cards as possible, with plain clearly stated details. I made sure all of my details were left aligned because I didn't want the card looking messy.
I also mocked up a different business card design with the back side blank, but it was a bit to plain on the side without any image on the other side, so keeping the designs I researched in mind I decided on the final design of having the image on the back side and the information on it's own on the front side
